Full-Form of IOC is The International Olympic Committee(IOC) is a non-governmental, non-profit, international body or organization. It is located in Lausanne, Switzerland. This Committee primarily governs or officiates Olympic games.
History Of IOC
The IOC was created and founded by Pierre De Coubertin, on 23rd June 1894, with Demetrios Vikelas as its first president. As of June 2017, its membership includes 95 active members, 41 honorary members, an honorary president, and one honorary member.
The IOC is the ultimate authority of the worldwide modern Olympic movement. The IOC is responsible for organizing the Olympic Games and Youth Olympic Games, which are held every four years, in the summer and winter of the event year.
First, 15 members were nominated by Baron De Coubertin. One member from each country is nominated where NOC(National Olympics Committee) progressed or conducted Olympics once. IOA and FIH chief Narinder Batra is the current elected member of IOC. Nita Ambani, the chairperson of Reliance Foundation was the previous individual member of IOC.
Objectives and goals of IOC:
The ultimate goal of the IOC is to publicise and promote the Olympics throughout the world. And across the countries to carry forward the Olympic Movement.
To encourage and support the body for better development and coordination among various sports competitions.
And ensure the regular celebration and knowledge among people about the Olympic Games
To cooperate with the concerned public and private organisations and authorities in tan attempt to secure the spot for sports at the service of humanity and ultimately to ensure peace and prosperity.
To vehemently act against any form of discrimination practices affecting the Olympic Movement.
And to ensure equality in terms of participation opportunities for both men and women in sports at all levels. Similarly in all structures with a constant goal to implement the principle of equality of men and women.
